Gates: Orpen Gate (about 45 min drive to Kruger proper). Most visitors access private reserves (Timbavati, Klaserie, Balule, Thornybush) rather than the national park directly. From JHB: 5.5–6 hours' drive via N4 and R40, or 1-hour flight to Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport. Best: Dry season (May to September) for the best game viewing in the private reserves. Winter mornings are cold on open safari vehicles, so pack warm layers. Wet season offers lower rates at many lodges and excellent birding.
