Phelwana Game Lodge
Boutique game lodge on a private estate near Hoedspruit — Big Five day trips and total relaxation
About Phelwana Game Lodge
Phelwana Game Lodge is a boutique property on a private 12-hectare estate in the Hoedspruit area, offering a peaceful and stylish base for exploring the Greater Kruger reserves. Set among indigenous bush with free-roaming wildlife on the property — including giraffe, zebra, warthog, and a variety of antelope — Phelwana provides a genuine bush atmosphere without the premium pricing of lodges inside the reserves.
Six individually designed suites combine modern African aesthetics with comfort, each featuring air conditioning, en-suite bathrooms, private decks, and views over the surrounding bushveld. The main lodge area includes a swimming pool overlooking a waterhole, an open-plan lounge, and a dining area where meals are served under the stars.
While Phelwana doesn’t offer its own Big Five game drives (the property isn’t within a Big Five reserve), it is perfectly positioned as a base for day trips into the Timbavati, Klaserie, Thornybush, and Kruger National Park — all within an hour’s drive. The lodge can arrange guided game drives, walking safaris, and Panorama Route tours through trusted partners.
Phelwana is ideal for travellers who want boutique luxury, a relaxed atmosphere, and the flexibility to explore multiple reserves from a single comfortable base.
