About Maroela Satellite Camp
Maroela Satellite Camp is a small caravan and camping facility located just 3 km from Orpen Gate, operating as a satellite of the nearby Orpen Rest Camp. It caters specifically to caravans and campers — no bungalows or fixed accommodation are available.
The camp has shaded stands with power points and communal ablution facilities. A small communal kitchen area is available, but there is no shop or restaurant — guests should stock up before entering the park or use the basic shop at Orpen camp.
Maroela’s appeal is its location and price. Central Kruger’s predator grasslands begin right at the gate, and the S106 road east of Orpen regularly produces lion, cheetah, and wild dog sightings from the first kilometre. For self-sufficient campers with their own equipment, Maroela offers the cheapest possible base in arguably the best game-viewing section of the park.
